Youngker High School’s performing-arts center, which features an outdoor amphitheater and customizable acoustics, earned top marks from an architecture magazine. ENR Southwest, a trade magazine that specializes in development, design and construction news in Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico, nominated the center for its 2011 “Best K-12 Education Project.” The center was modeled to fit into the school’s central gathering places and includes a glass-wall entrance and a statue of the school Rough Rider mascot. Orcutt Winslow Architecture, the Arizona design company that modeled the center, will receive an award from ENR Southwest at a banquet Nov. 15.

“Some unique features are a full-orchestra pit and the acoustics construction, which is controlled with curtains and scalloped walls,” said Eric Godfrey, assistant superintendent of operations at Buckeye Union High School District.

Kraemer Consulting Engineers, P.L.L.C. was the mechanical and plumbing engineer of record for this project.
